“The philosophy of Forest schools is to encourage and inspire individuals of any age through positive outdoor experiences”
Why do we have a forest school?
Children need a positive outdoor experience. Although we have a garden, the forest school offers a different and unique experience of working in a natural environment. Children learn skills of self awareness, self regulation – learning the rules, Increased knowledge of the natural environment, Good communication skills, Empathy towards each other and the environment, Independence, a positive mental attitude, self esteem and confidence.
What the children do
The children visit our forest school for a period of time. Through play they have the opportunity to learn about the natural environment, how to handle risks and to use their own initiative. They solve problems and co-operate with each other. Forest school activities run all round in all weathers (except extreme weather conditions) and the children will gradually see the seasons change in a very natural environment.
We have a Forest School Leader and other staff members who work with the children. Parents are encouraged to join in with the session. We provide water proof clothing for the children to wear, before each session the grounds are thoroughly checked for any hazards.
